Listening to music these days can be so overwhelming. Every day, new songs are being released and each Friday comes with its own flood of projects both local or international. The market has therefore been oversaturated with so much music that even fans are starting to feel bloated. As a result of this, we at Hitsongz have decided to make out time to listen to every release, digest it, and make out a list off the best of the stream of songs and projects available to give you a great listening experience.
Below are five of some of the best albums released this recently and trust us, they are of premium quality.
1. Ed Sheeran – No.6. Collaborations Project
Earlier today, Ed Sheeran released his new album titled “No.6. Collaborations” which finds the multi-talented singer teaming up with an all-star cast of some of the biggest American and U.K acts. According to the singer, he really stepped out of his comfort zone to create this project which served as a follow up to a project he made in 2010 titled “No.5 Collaborations Project“.
As mentioned earlier, this project boasts of big-name collaborations like Travis Scott, Cardi B, Eminem, 50 Cent, Khalid, Bruno Mars, Stormzy, Young Thug, J Hus and many others. Despite being 15-tracks long, the total runtime of project clocks just 49 minutes.
2. Various Artists – The Lion King Soundtrack
The remake of 1994 Disney classic cartoon, the Lion King is set to hit the cinemas next week. And in respect to that, Disney has released the soundtrack to the highly anticipated movie which has Beyonce, Seth Rogen, Donald Glover (Childish Gambino), Billy Eichner included in its cast.
This soundtrack contains a total of 19 tracks which includes a revamped ‘Hakuna Matata‘ which was a staple that found its home in the original movie. It also contains a new version of ‘Can You Feel the Love Tonight‘ as well as a new original song from Queen Bey herself, titled ‘Spirit‘. With big names like Beyonce, Childish Gambino and even Chance The Rapper taking you down memory lane, you’d love to listen to this project.
3. Crayon – Cray Cray
Closer to home, Crayon, the new Mavin act who was unveiled just last month has released his debut project titled the “Cray Cray” EP. With this project, the young singer seeks to leave an impression and set himself on the path of Afropop royalty. The project is a 6-track EP spanning just about 20 minutes. Following his impressive debut appearance on Mavins’ ‘All Is In Order‘, Crayon is no doubt set to prove himself as the next Afropop star with this EP.
4. Dreamville – Revenge Of The Dreamers III
Despite being released last week, this impressive body of work still makes our list. Dreamville, the label owned by popular American rapper J.Cole has unveiled the highly anticipated third instalment of its Revenge Of The Dreamers series. And we can’t just seem to get enough of it yet.
The series which is generally a periodic compilation of Dreamville acts even featured acts outside the label in this instalment.
The 18-track LP features appearances from the full Dreamville roster, J.Cole, Bas, Cozz, Omen, Ari Lennox, Lute, EARTHGANG and JID. It also features appearances from T.I, Vince Staples, Reason, Childish Major, Buddy, Young Nudy and others. In fact, Kendrick Lamar pulled up a surprise appearance in the opening track, ‘Under The Sun‘.
Stand out tracks off the project includes 1993, MIDDLE CHILD, Sacrifices and Wells Fargo.
5. Chillz – Good Vibes: Vol 1.
Remember Chillz? That Guy with that amazing opening verse in the intro track,‘ Sunset’ off M.I‘s Rendevous Playlist? The same one that Falz featured on ‘Paper’ off “Moral Instruction.” Yes, that exact one. He released his debut album last month titled ” Good Vibes, Vol 1” and guess what? The album definitely lives up to its name.
Chillz brings along a super talented team of Falz, Mayourkun and Sir Dauda on the 9-track project. The album generally has this general feel-good element to it as Chillz impresses every time with solid vocals on every track.
Standout records off the project include ‘Grateful‘, ‘Good Vibes‘ and ‘Chop Life‘.
